The Columbia River system is home to the largest run of summer steelhead in the world, and the Deschutes is one of its most productive tributaries. From July through November, the Deschutes offers some of the finest summer steelhead fishing anywhere. With diverse habitat, multi-day float options, and miles of classic steelhead water, it’s the perfect place to refine your skills and experience the thrill of the grab.

Alex Gonsiewski has been guiding on the Deschutes since 2009. Before operating his own permit, he spent a decade under the mentorship of renowned guide John Hazel. Alex’s deep knowledge of the river and its steelhead ensures your time is spent on the best water. The Deschutes was made for Spey casting, with high banks and tree-lined runs protecting prime steelhead lies. Whether you’re new to the two-handed rod or an experienced caster, Alex’s calm, practical teaching style will help you improve your technique and get the most out of each swing.

DESCHUTES SUMMER STEELHEAD

STEELHEAD DAY TRIPS

First light on the Deschutes is something every angler should experience—cool canyon air, a hot cup of coffee, the call of a wren, and the first glimpse of prime steelhead water. Morning’s low light also provides one of the best chances to connect with a fish, which is why our days begin in the pre-dawn darkness. We’ll meet about an hour before first light, and depending on the season and weather, may fish until dark to take advantage of both morning and evening shade.

Rate: $750 per day
